General description of the collection: The Hamilton Howze papers include transcripts of interviews with Hamiltion H. Howze taken by Robert T. Reed in 1972 as part of the Senior Offcier Debriefing Program and published interviews to 1983. Includes Howze's discussion of his early life, service in U.S. Cavalry 1936-1942; command of the 1st Armored Division in World War II, 1942-1943 in the Italian and North African campaigns, especially in Tunisia, his peacetime duty 1945-1958; work in Army aviation, work on Howze's board and on the use of helicopter in airmobile operations. Also contains discussion on Army training and sports.
